Initial Ideas *FLASH WARNING*

Ideas and influences for my music video:

1. Paparazzi

With the Paparazzi comes a lot of exposure, and with that exposure comes fear. Miss Needles' song portrays very raw emotions, and I wanted to incorporate events where you could end up feeling quite vulnerable and on show, and what better way to do this and also play with lighting than the pesky paparazzi.

2. Kate Bush

When shooting the video, I really wanted the eerie soundtrack to how through the movements in the video, much like the singer-songwriter, musician, composer, dancer and record producer, Kate Bush showed in her music videos. I adored the way that her peculiar moves seemed to show her really connecting with the music as if it were flowing through her bones - something of which I feel makes the audience spiritually more involved with the video, and are left feeling the want of this freedom in movement, both realistically and metaphorically.

To make sure that the people in my video knew of the feeling I wanted to portray, I did actually show them Kate's music video of the famous 'Wuthering Heights', which has a lot of free movement in it, which I feel would help to inspire them to be more kooky with their own movements.

3. Courtney Act's Body Parts

The spotlight used here really allows the viewer pay their full attention to her in this shot and makes them keep an eye right on just Courtney and no-one else. If I used this spotlight/black and white shot in my music video, I feel like I could definitely play with the idea of breaking - using this shot as a starting point if I make it seem a little more pretentious and self-loving.

Throughout, effects such as this are used to create a kaleidoscopic pattern to match the name of her EP; Kaleidoscope, available on iTunes. For mine, I would also like to somehow relate the video to the album name - which in this case is Taxidermy - but rather than having real taxidermy (unless any is available), I would use it as more of a metaphorical structure throughout.

The shadow-play used in these shots remind me of how easily facial features can change with different lighting and how that if I wanted to easily change how people looked, I could just change the lighting. This idea can be seen in the video on YouTube I have seen before; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqTuo2yQBXM.

A gif from the video mentioned and linked above.
I think that this shot is very smartly done as Courtney is still the main focus, despite not being in the foreground, which shows how much power she possesses.

Close-ups like this really engage the viewer, in my opinion, and allows you to see the full extent of beauty, emotion and power that Courtney holds. It also could connote how when up close (in the public eye) you have to be strong to keep your head in the good light.

The colour play used in these shots are so spectacular and memorable as it is a complete contrast to the black and white in the rest of the shot and video. To do this in my own video is certainly a challenge I would like to take, as it is so gorgeous to look at and very visually pleasing.

4. Alaska Thunderf*ck's Your Makeup Is Terrible

I really like the strage stance of Alaska in this shot, as I feel like it is quite unusual and a little animalistic which would possibly show both performance and abstract themes. I have noticed that the videos I am looking into use a little bit of each structure, which hopefully I can do too as I think it adds more personality to the videos and keeps them away from looking like any other music video.

This fractured shot here, I feel, would be an interesting shot to use in my music video, as it is a good representation of how easily people and life, even, can be shattered in an instant and mixing this with all of the other elements I would like to add will definitely portray the deeper meaning I want it to have.

Two Alaska's are better than one! I like how this mirrored image shot appears, as in terms of abstract,a it applies to the 'rule of thirds' as well as being beautifully symmetrical - creating the aesthetically pleasing overall look.

I, personally, really adore this image as I feel it shows her makeup so purely and truly - a juxtaposition to the title of the song 'Your Makeup Is Terrible', which could say how she doesn't feel like the song applies to herself because she's confident enough with it to be in a close up shot. Although, seen later in the song (if you've watched it, if not GO WATCH) she starts stripping herself down and having a mental breakdown in the bathroom whilst stating the opposite; "my makeup is terrible"which could be a peek at the difference between when people are in the open or in the spotlight compared to when they're behind closed doors. This is certainly something I feel that everyone relates to.

The contortionism shown in these shots are very unusual and strange, which I believe will add a feel of curiousness in the viewer in wondering what's going on and will keep them intrigued too.

The intensity and impact of this ending is sheer brilliance to me. It is so gorgeously visual that all I can do is stare at the screen and try to take in all of the beauty that I see. This intense colour would be so oppositional to the deep black and white-suited story within the lyrics that I think it would be so unexpected to add it into my video.
